Dictation + meeting notes · Windows

Talk through your day. It's all written down.

Say your emails instead of typing them. Sit in your meetings instead of taking notes. A9 Voice writes both, knows who said what, and keeps it all in files on your PC.

A9 Voice is a Windows app for dictation and meeting notes: hold Ctrl+Space to type with your voice in any app, and record Teams or Zoom calls with no bot joining.

One Tuesday

Here's what a workday looks like when you stop typing it.

Inbox

Twelve emails before stand-up.

Hold Ctrl+Space and answer them out loud. You talk about three times faster than you type, and the "um"s are gone before the text lands. Free dictation for Windows →

Re: Store screenshots

Thanks, Priya. The store screenshots will be ready by Wednesday, and I'll send the release notes to Dana tonight.

You say it messy. It reads clean.

It drops the "um"s and fixes the punctuation. It never rewrites what you meant, and your dictionary spells names and jargon your way, every time.

Um, so yeah, I think, uh, let's hold the launch to like Monday the twentieth if, you know, if the payment fix lands by Thursday

Stand-up

The call starts. So does the recording.

When Teams, Zoom or any app you pick opens the mic, A9 Voice starts recording on its own. You get eight seconds to discard it if this one shouldn't be kept.

Speaker 3 becomes Priya. In seconds.

Tag a voice once and every line from that person carries the name. With voice recognition on, regulars are named as they speak. It's off until you turn it on, and voiceprints never leave your PC.

Someone shares a chart. Snip it into the record.

Win+Shift+S during a call drops the screenshot into the transcript at that moment, and into the meeting's folder.

Notes

The call ends. The notes are already there.

Your own action items come first. Decisions link to the moment they were made. Named after the meeting, filed in a folder with the date.

Why people switch

No bot in your call.

It records your mic and your computer's audio, right on your PC. Nobody sees an assistant in the participant list.

Your files, not their cloud.

Every note is a folder of plain Markdown on your PC. Claude, ChatGPT or any tool that reads files can use it.

Your keys. Or no internet at all.

Run speech models on your PC with no key, or bring your own provider keys and pay them directly.

What changes when you switch.

Questions

Is A9 Voice free?

Transcribe, the dictation half, is free with no limits and no account. Notes, the meeting half, is free for 30 days and then $49 once. If you use cloud models you pay those providers directly; models that run on your PC cost nothing per use. Windows also has its own voice typing (Win+H); the guide to Windows voice typing says how it works and when an app is worth it. More on the free half: free dictation for Windows.

Does it join my Teams or Zoom call as a bot?

No. It records your microphone and your computer’s audio on your PC, so nobody sees an assistant in the participant list. Because nothing announces the recording, tell the people on the call that you’re recording.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Download a speech model in Settings › Speech models and dictation and meeting transcripts work with no internet. For summaries and Ask offline, point A9 Voice at a language model running on your PC.

Does it work in my language?

Yes, in more than 60 languages for dictation and meeting notes; the list depends on the speech engine you pick. A new install on a Windows in another language starts in that language, summaries come back in the meeting’s language, and Ask answers in the language you ask in. If your engine can’t do your language, the app says so and offers one that can. See languages by engine.

Is there a Mac version?

No. A9 Voice runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. It installs for your Windows user with no admin rights. The installer is not code-signed yet, so Edge or Windows SmartScreen may warn you about it; the download page explains the screens and lists the installer’s SHA-256 so you can check the file.

Where do my notes go?

Into a folder you pick on your PC, as plain Markdown files (summary.md, transcript.md and an images folder). Claude, ChatGPT or any tool that reads files can use them. Voiceprints never leave your PC.

Do I need permission to record a meeting?

Laws differ by place. Some US states require everyone’s consent, others only one person’s, and you’re responsible for getting it. See what leaves your PC.

What’s new in the latest version?

New builds reach the Dev channel first and move to Stable once they have been tried; the app updates itself. The changelog lists every version with two to five plain lines, newest first.
